Go up before the crowds. Unlike the Empire State, you get the Empire State in your photo instead of missing from it.

10:00 MoMA 53rd St

One loop, no more. Head straight for The Starry Night, sit in the Water Lilies room for a minute, then let yourself leave — the museum rewards restraint.

12:00 Grand Central + NYPL 42nd St

Stand in the whispering gallery outside the Oyster Bar, then walk two blocks to the marble lions guarding the library steps.

13:00 Bryant Park 6th Ave

Grab a bánh mì or falafel from the kiosks and take the lawn. This is the pause in the day — use it.

15:00 Fifth Avenue Saks → Tiffany

Window-shop the flagships, then duck into St. Patrick's Cathedral — free, cool, and quiet in a loud part of town.

19:00 Totto Ramen Hell's Kitchen

Cash only, no reservations, line moves faster than it looks. The chashu ramen is the whole reason people put up with the wait.

21:00 Broadway Times Sq

Feeling spontaneous — the TKTS booth in Times Square has same-day tickets at up to half price. Feeling planned — you booked weeks ago and you already know where you're sitting.

TIP · TKTS line is shortest right when it opens at 3pm — go then, hold the ticket, see the show at night

LINE 2 — SUN

Downtown & the Village

Cobblestones, coffee shops the size of subway cars, and the city's most walkable mile.

08:30 Buvette West Village

A café crème and a croissant in a room barely wider than a hallway. Get there before nine or take it to go.

09:30 Washington Square Park Greenwich Village

Chess hustlers at the stone tables, NYU students underfoot, the arch doing its best Paris impression.

10:30 West Village streets Bleecker & Christopher

No agenda here — just wander Bleecker, Cherry Lane, and the crooked little blocks that don't follow the grid.

15 min walk north to Chelsea Market

12:00 Los Tacos No. 1 Chelsea Market

Eat standing at the counter, adobada taco in one hand. Best fast lunch in the neighborhood, no close second.

13:00 The High Line Gansevoort → 34th

Walk it north to Hudson Yards. An old freight rail line turned elevated garden — the city looks different from eight feet up.

15:30 Whitney Museum Meatpacking

Short on time — skip the galleries and just take the elevator to the rooftop terrace for the Hudson River view.

17:00 SoHo Broadway & Mercer

Cast-iron facades doing double duty as boutique backdrops. Browse more than you buy — this stretch adds up fast.

19:30 Via Carota Greenwich Village

No reservations, so arrive at 6:15 and put your name in, then come back. The cacio e pepe is why the wait exists.

Enter through the phone booth inside Crif Dogs. Reserve ahead — it's a small room and everyone wants the same eight seats.

LINE 3 — MON

Brooklyn Bridge & the Edges

Where the island ends and the harbor opens up.

06:45 Brooklyn Bridge Manhattan side

Walk it at sunrise, before the tour buses and the bike-lane traffic jams. Stay on the pedestrian path, keep right.

07:30 DUMBO Brooklyn side

The famous shot — the bridge framed between Washington and Water St — then coffee at Brooklyn Roasting Company while it's still quiet.

Walk back across, then south to the ferry terminal

09:00 Staten Island Ferry Whitehall Terminal

Free, 25 minutes, and the best Statue of Liberty photo in the city. Stay onboard and ride it straight back.

TIP · Stand on the right side heading out for the clearest Statue of Liberty view

10:30 9/11 Memorial Financial District

Give the reflecting pools real time — this isn't a stop to rush through on the way to somewhere else.

12:30 Stone Street FiDi

A cobblestone lane of outdoor tables where the Financial District finally exhales. Adrienne's Pizzabar for a square slice in the sun.

4/5/6 train, four stops to Canal St

14:00 Chinatown Mott St

Dumplings from Nom Wah Tea Parlor, the oldest dim sum house in the neighborhood. Order the pan-fried, not the steamed.

15:30 Lower East Side Orchard St

The old garment-district signage is still up over half the storefronts. History buffs: the Tenement Museum is two blocks over.

18:00 230 Fifth Rooftop NoMad

Sunset with the Empire State lit up right next to you. Bring a layer — the rooftop is open-air and the wind picks up.

20:00 Katz's Delicatessen LES

Pastrami on rye, last stop on the line. Tip the counter cutter in cash before you sit down — it's tradition, not optional.
