Bulk Google Index Audit — a Repeatable SOP for SEO Teams

A standard operating procedure for verifying the index status of any URL list: backlink reports, migrated sites, content inventories, competitor sections. Time budget: ~15 minutes of work plus checker runtime.

When to run this SOP

  • A backlink vendor delivered a report and you need to know how many links actually count
  • A site was migrated or redesigned and key pages must be confirmed back in the index
  • Search Console shows a growing "not indexed" bucket and you need the real list
  • A monthly health check on money pages

Step 1 — Assemble the URL list (3 min)

Collect URLs into a plain .txt file, one URL per line. Sources: the vendor's link report, your sitemap, a Search Console export, a crawler export. Deduplicate and keep only canonical variants (https, correct host, no tracking parameters) — otherwise you'll audit noise.

Step 2 — Run the bulk check (checker runtime)

Manual methods don't scale past a handful of URLs: site: search is documented by Google as a results filter rather than an index inventory, and URL Inspection works one URL at a time on verified sites only.

Upload the .txt to the SpeedyIndex Google Index Checker. Every URL is verified with several query types (site:, inurl:, direct URL, quoted exact match), and the result comes back as a per-URL report: indexed / not indexed. The first 50 checks are free; no site ownership required.

Step 3 — Segment the results (5 min)

Split the "not indexed" list into three piles:

  1. Blocked — noindex, robots.txt, canonical pointing elsewhere, soft 404, 4xx/5xx. These can't be indexed until fixed. Triage guide: Crawled – currently not indexed.
  2. Clean but skipped — technically fine pages the algorithm hasn't kept. Candidates for (re)submission to indexing.
  3. Not worth it — thin, duplicate or dead placements. For backlinks: this pile is your vendor-dispute list. Full backlink workflow: how to check backlink indexation.

Step 4 — Act on each pile (5 min)

  • Fix the blockers, then re-request crawling.
  • Submit the clean pile for indexing (the checker's report file can be sent to indexing directly in SpeedyIndex).
  • Write off pile 3 — and adjust where you buy links.

Step 5 — Re-check on schedule

Indexing is a state, not an event. Re-run the same list at day 14 and day 28. Track three numbers per audit: % indexed at day 0, day 14, day 28. Trend beats snapshot.
