The US version The Invite is explicitly credited by IMDb as being based on Cesc Gay's Sentimental, and stars Olivia Wilde (who also directs), Seth Rogen, Edward Norton, and Penรฉlope Cruz. It was distributed by A24 after an eight-figure Sundance bidding war.
The original film is itself based on Cesc Gay's own play Los vecinos de arriba ("The Neighbours Upstairs"), which had earlier stage productions in Argentina, Chile, Portugal, Colombia, and Mexico โ separate from the film adaptations listed above.
